The Bakersland area is undergoing a major revamp.
It is expected to become a $1.4 billion, three-year, multi-million dollar industry, with a number of new operators, including the first-ever car rental company, Car-Rental.
The new operator, which has already started to take reservations, said it has taken more than 1,000 car rentals over the past year.
It expects to hire nearly 2,000 people to serve its customers by the end of 2019, and it expects to have more than 5,000 rental cars in the market by the beginning of 2020.
Car- Rental has been in business for more than a decade, and has operated in California, Arizona and Utah.
It also said it is looking at other markets around the country.
“We have an enormous amount of growth potential in the Bay Area, and the area is poised to become the next destination for car rentals in the U.S.,” said Michael Hines, Car Rental’s CEO.
“This is a good time for us to begin to expand into new markets and expand our footprint,” Hines said.
The Bay Area has long had a reputation as a hotbed of car rental.
A survey from 2016 found that more than 10% of respondents in the region reported being car rental-seeking in 2017.
Hines is optimistic that the Bakersian market will become more affordable.
“We’re seeing tremendous demand for our services, and our customers are willing to pay a little more,” he said.
The Baking Stations and Car Renteries, which are separate companies, will be incorporated in a few weeks, said Bob Langer, president of the Bay Center for Business and Tourism.
There are currently more than 500 car rental companies in the San Francisco area, including Car-Baker, CarRental and others.
The new operators are trying to bring a new kind of car service to the area, Hines added.
They will offer a range of services to the public and private sector, including a car rental program, as well as an expanded vehicle service that allows customers to pay their bills in their cars.
He said the car rental industry has been growing at an exponential rate, with car rental demand growing by 70% between 2014 and 2017.
“I think we’re going to see some great things,” he predicted.
Car-Renteries is scheduled to begin accepting reservations in March, and Car-Hired is scheduled for an official start-up in June, with plans to be operating out of the Bancroft hotel, according to the company’s website.
