Mount Batur is situated in the Bangli region in the island of Bali, Indonesia. For a long time, visitors have been trekking through Mount Batur (a volcano in Bali) to watch at the dawn as it rises above nearby volcanoes Mount Agung and Mount Agung and it’s not difficult to see the reason!

If you are able to get up early for the drive to the mountain, you’ll be treated to an exhilarating walk in the dark with an incredible sunrise at the top. The last time I was there I was hiking the volcano for the first time in my life and I wasn’t sure what I was going to experience.

In this article , I’ll discuss six things you need to know before you go on Mount Batur Sunrise Trekking, including what you need to bring and how you prepare.

How strenuous is the hike to the top of Mount Batur VOLCANO In Bali?

The first question is, how strenuous is the hike? It’s for most the most important question to finding out. If you’re a regular exerciser and have a decent level of aerobic fitness, then you won’t feel that the hike will be difficult.

You will read on most sites, travel-related channels along with blogs about how it’s simple and you can practically run through it! This isn’t true…

The hike takes about an hour (for mostpeople, it’s faster depending on how many breaks you’ll need) Be aware that you are at the top of a volcano that is 1,717 m or 5,633 feet, above sea level.

For me personally I found the hike quite challenging and not the simple stroll some people have described. To be fair I don’t perform too lot of cardio, and if go to the gym, I’m usually there for a leisurely Pilates class!

So when it comes to knowing how hard the hike will be truthfully, you should look to your own personal fitness level instead of someone other’s. You know your own body and can be in a position to know soon if likely to find the hike difficult.

You don’t have to be preparing for your race in advance (it’s an easy hike of two hours, not a marathon! ) In as long as you take breaks when you need them I think anyone can get to the top.

WHAT TO WEAR TO GO HIKING THE VOLCANO

The climate and temperature will differ from one night to the next , and it also shifts throughout the hike. I would suggest you wear comfy shorts or shorts. This is what you typically wear when working out.

2.) WHAT TO Wear to Hike the VOLCANO

The temperature and climate will differ from night to the following and will change throughout the hike. I suggest wearing suitable tights or shorts. These are the things you typically wear when working out.

The most important thing to wear is proper sneakers or footwear for walking! I watched many ladies wearing very ridiculous and stylish boots slipping as they tried to get up the last section of the hike where the rocks and gravel are loose.

Take a sweater or hoodie for the colder parts of the hiking mount batur, probably in the beginning and at the top. Throughout the hike it is likely that you’ll remove these layers.

I would also suggest you carry an rain jacket for when you are out hiking during the rainy season or around it because you could be drenched on!

WHAT SHOULD YOU BRING FOR MOUNT BATUR SUNRISE TREKKING

Use a small rucksack to take along your waterproof gear plus a bottle of water as well as snacks. I also suggest purchasing the headlamp prior to your trip.

You are given a flashlight from your guide, but having a little headlamp helped make the trek easier, especially towards the final point to keep your hands free when climbing along the path that is rocky.

Your guide could provide a few smaller water sources for you however, I think it’s best to have extra to bring along your own too. When you reach the summit, your guide will be bringing snacks, perhaps some basic boiled eggs.

If you’re planning to eat Bring some biscuits or sandwiches. We carried these along however we was waiting to eat till we had a break on our return journey in Seminyak.

CAMERA EQUIPMENT

Bringing cameras is essential! I currently have an Nikon D850 and an Sigma Art Lens however, any DSLR will do the job to capture the sunrise.

Sunrise at the peak of Mount Batur is truly stunning So make sure you bring along any cameras Gopros phone or other devices of else you’d like to use in photography.

If you’re not a professional I’d recommend leaving the tripod at home. Whilst you could make a great time-lapse photo but it’s a lot of fun on the summit and transporting it up the mountain could be a nightmare.

If you’re looking to purchase an tripod, I’d suggest the use of a smaller and more flexible tripod instead of a larger one. But I suggest that you lay down your camera and enjoy the moment as the sun rises , after snapping a few shots!
